Thrust from rockets are not impossible in a vacuum. The rocket thrust is contained inside the vessel where the exhaust is where the thrust is forced out thus propelling the ship forward in relation to as per the amount of thrust being exhausted.
This is not hard to understand if one uses their God given brain.
