Mylene Farmer singing "California", live in concert in 1996, with a translation and subtitles contained within the performance for you. This was my first attempt at translating these words by Mylene. Among her recorded songs, "California" could be considered one that is extremely multi-layered in meanings, as is her usual style. But in this song, Mylene uses so many poetic devices- in literally every line- such as neologisms, English slang mixed with French slang, and other weavings of words, that even a Francophone listener will not perceive every nuance of these lyrics. "Cannon" can be seen as a double-meaning. It can mean "canon" or "cannon". "On the Road" can be understood literally only, but it also refers to the book by "Jack Kerouac" of course. The whole of the first verse can be seen in double-meaning. It can be seen as describing a mental state, or as describing the mundane act of walking through an airport. There are more- those are just a few. "Spleen" was translated literally, but it means more than the biological organ. In French, it is a term and it refers to having the blues or being in a melancholic state- brooding. Thank you. Have a great day. Cheers+T'I's
