If CO2 were actually reduced significantly, then it would be catastrophic for the planet. CO2 would have continued a steady decline if humans hadn't started burning fossil fuels. Nuclear power is relatively CO2 neutral, and has fewer associated problems than other forms of power. Managing high-level nuclear waste is a problem that has definitive solutions. Public perception of risks vs. benefits has been the biggest obstacle to using nuclear power. Many more people have been killed by hydroelectric accidents than nuclear accidents.
