Judging from my experience in my immediate vicinity, people in general are much less fearful than what you'd expect, when you look at the mania and hysteria, politicans and the media are trying to stir up. When Omicron was reported to be found in South Africa, they tried to tell us this new variant is even more dangerous and deadly than all the other variants before. And yes, people believed it - for a couple of weeks the elderly were visibly worried. But, since the official hype is even more detached from everyday reality than it was before summer 2021, people in general are more relaxed, the mood is better as it was one year ago. I believe, people in general are not idiots, most of us "little people" are just in situations where they're ratherless powerless against state mandates. The situation reminds me of other hyped topics like climate change. They have to keep the hype machine going, because people grow weary of the propaganda, especially when they don't see the predictions come true, but begin to see how policies make life worse for them. And believe it or not, the Greens in Germany once sounded legitimately concerned about the environment, but now all of their policies (which I'd say are liberal in the American sense) suck so much, the Greens have lost a large portion of votes in the last Federal elections this autumn.

Since the inception of the COVID response, very little knowledge has been laid before the public. It was mostly conclusions and directives, stated to be based on 'science'. But science is transparent, accessible, available, reviewable, able to be scrutinized and questioned, if not blatantly criticized for errors, mistakes, inconsistencies, fatal flaws, and incorrect reasoning. Early on, the veneer of good faith and honesty was eroded. There are several interventions that can treat COVID if symptoms develop, though most people have no symptoms or trivial symptoms, such as monoclonal antibodies, Prednisone or other corticosteroids, ivermectin, and oxygen. Being active, sufficient sun or vitamin D,K, and losing weight right now is sound advise anytime. Lastly, for most age groups outside the high rise categories, it is a lesser risk that influenza.
