Originally uploaded to https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/melting-of-the-thwaites-glacier-could-rewrite-the-global-coastline A warming atmosphere is creating concern in the Arctic Circle and on the continent of Antarctica. The Arctic Report Card shows high temperatures, shrinking sea ice and extreme melting events are transforming the region. At the opposite pole, in Antarctica, a key ice shelf that sits in front of the Thwaites Glacier could break up much sooner than expected — within 5 years. William Brangham reports.

This is without a doubt the stupidest thing I ever heard out of PBS, and they say a lot of stupid shit. The only "cork" in this whole scenario is the butt plug of this NYU "professor."

This guy is being honoured as a fellow by the American Geophysical Union? Nothing this "fellow" says holds up to 5 seconds of scrutiny. The AGU used to be a respected body of scientists. Thirty years ago, this guy would not have been allowed to hold a membership and now he is being honoured. Wow.

But didn't he say it's FLOATING on the water?...😃 Where do they get these people from?

Dumbass! Floating ice produced by a river of ice acts a a cork on a bottle???🤣 Ice, whether flowing down a glacier or floating, is a fluid. The only effect the floating ice will have depends on constraining geography, but at best it slows the flow slightly.

No where did the PBS Presenter ask a simple question, what are the Numbers? David Holland even makes the statement that "Half the Arctic Sea ice has Melted...." which we know factually to be FALSE and then doubles down that warmer weather animals like "Beaver" are moving into "Alaska!" We know that to be false since Beaver was one of the reasons for hunters in the last century went to Alaska! They were Commercially Viable. The reason we see more now is because the populations are becoming more numerous due to the collapse of the Fur Trade!

Amazing, a Floating ice shelf is able to hold back millions of tons of ice in a glacier. Are you serious? A floating ice shelf cannot hold back anything as that much weight will push it out of the way as if it was not there. Ice will flow at the same rate with or without the ice shelf. Just another non existent problem like a massive floating ice shelf breaking off. Not a problem because floating ice cannot raise sea levels

Thank God that I have never contributed a penny to PBS.

This is painful to watch. Awarded "scientist" uses precise words like "could", "maybe".

Amazing anyone can come up with that many lies in such a short time! This winter was the coldest in Antarctica ever. Mean temp. -61 C, and the lowest -98! The sea ice in the Arctic is above normal (or was until DMI changed it!)

Amazing how shrinking sea ice strands ships in the Arctic.

These liars and deceivers will not admit there are active volcanoes under the western and arctic ice sheet that are actually melting the ice. I guess that is our a fault as well.

Climate change is a fraud. When you use that as a starting point, you can actually smell the fucking bullshit from those absurd little people. It "could" happen. If it does, then this other thing will happen. But if it doesn't? Silence.
