I was working in Bay St Louis when Camille hit. Storm surge , as seen, was devastating to anything on the beach. Backwater flooding and tornados just added to it. In my old age I would have to say building on the beach would not make sense if you do not plan for a 20 foot storm surge happening at some random interval. Buildings not on the beach I believe already have good designs available to deal with hurricane force winds. Tornados are a different matter.
