This is about the famous pear country of Austria stretching from the Danube River to the Alps - the Mostviertel. Located in the center of the country, this is where 200 varieties of pears are found in pear trees spread across the entire landscape. The region derives its name from “Most” which is the Austrian name for pear cider or perry which is extracted from the tart fruits of the pear trees for around centuries now. Some 3000 varieties of rare species of animals like little owl, the European otter, the hoopoe or the curlew are found to inhabit the pear country as this region doesn’t share the climactic extremes are found in the other areas of Austrian Alpine. This geographical difference offers a safe and comfortable residence to these creatures.
