Pretty nice picture I wonder how much is real not added effects to make it look this way, like colors. All the objects are collapsed distances in depth as is the effect of a telescope looking deeply on a narrow trajectery. Named James Webb, a key person in faking the moon landings in a hanger in the desert. I wonder how much of this is fake or is that as much of a stupid question as I fear.
Well, in a sense it is all added. None of the light detected is in the visible spectrum, it is all in the infrared range. This galaxy cluster is about 4.25 billion lightyears away. This image is a composite of many images using different filters that can detect different infrared wavelengths taken over a twelve and a half hour period (it would have taken weeks using Hubble). The data from the telescope is represented in the form of greyscale images. The colours are arbitrarily assigned to individual filters in whatever way the team feels will be most visually appealing. (In this case, mid-infrared- Red: F1280W + F1800W, Green: F1130W, Blue: F770W. Near-infrared- Red: F444W Orange: F356W Green: F200W +F277W Blue: F090W + F150W) The area being observed is extremely small, only 24 arcminutes (0.4 degrees), about the size of a grain of sand held out at arms length.
NASA is as much an art studio as it is an institute of science.
