Today’s testing completed the series of test planned for the test stand engine and the Bing carburetor. We had successful manual mode tests to +4 psi (+8 inHg) of boost. Note this is the practical limit of the Bing 94/40 using a 10 psi fuel pump and boost reference pressure regulator set 4 psi. In addition to the manual mode testing, a serial of automatic mode tests were conduced at 32, 35, 36, and 37 inHg manifold pressure. With the computer configured for 37 inHg there was some engine surge. At 36 inHg and below the engine ran very smooth and continued to pull quite strongly. Last test on the test stand, 36 inHg at 2930 RPM. This represents the max cruse setting and based on mass air flow rates and boost pressure the Jabiru is generating ~137 HP. Maintaining this boost level at 10,000 DA it would represents a 39% increase in HP over a normal aspirated Jabiru.
