As for Polio, it was a dead virus that informed your immune system to develop immunity from it; but really, herd immunity was already taking place before the vaccine was even introduced.

Specifically with regard to polio, in the book " Fear of the Invisible close," by Janine Roberts, a compelling case has been made that every epidemic of polio was associated with mass exposure to a toxic material, namely DDT, with outbreaks of epidemics still happening where DDT is still being used. The only epidemics otherwise being reported today occur in populations where the vaccine is being given, the only difference being that the diagnosis is infantile paralysis instead of polio, but the effect and symptoms are exactly the same.
