Alhaji Sesay, who also played for the Sierra Leone national team, was sent down for 10 years after using "flirtatious behaviour" to get close to women he targeted A former Bristol City goalkeeper who used a "veneer of charm" to rape and attempt to rape women in nightclub toilets has been jailed. Alhaji Sesay, 22, who also played for the Sierra Leone national team, was sent down for 10 years yesterday. A court heard that the footballer used "flirtatious behaviour" to put himself close to women he believed to be targets. Sesay was first arrested in July 2019 after trapping a woman in a toilet cubicle and attempting to rape her in Mbargo, a club in Bristol. A court heard that the victim managed to break free and raise the alarm, resulting in bouncers arresting Sesay at the scene. Sesay also followed a woman into the toilets and forced his way into a cubicle at the Hart Lounge in Southgate, London, it was said. He committed rape and attempted rape on this occasion, a hearing was told. Sesay was convicted of of one count of rape and two of attempted rape against two separate women following a trial at Bristol Crown Court. At the sentencing hearing yesterday, Judge Cullum told Sesay, of Plumstead, London, he was a rapist and a sexual predator. He said his actions had significantly affected both victims, with one of them suffering severe psychological harm.
