Scientific American Gets Something Right

  - 9:08

Scientific American has degenerated into a propaganda rag, but occasionally they print a sentence or two with useful information.

Motivated reasoning and pre-fabricated conclusions are not unknown to science, and political ideology does intrude into it's funding, direction and desired outcomes. Even fads, fancies, conceits and contagion occur. But those who are skeptical demand a coherent, complete, concise, unassailable continuous chain of evidence, logic, reasoning, and reproducible tests.

I subscribed to SA for many, many years and watched it slow dissolve into a political rag. I have cancelled my subscription.

Let’s hope in 2022 honest discussion, debate and communication make a comeback and facts become more important than political opinions, consensus climate hysteria and those in power use that power for what is was intended, for the good of all Americans not just the elites. I hope Tony Heller is a harbinger of that change starting in 2022.

One edit below is should have been it: β€”β€”β€” Let’s hope in 2022 honest discussion, debate and communication make a comeback and facts become more important than political opinions, consensus climate hysteria and those in power use that power for what it was intended, for the good of all Americans not just the elites. I grew up reading Sci-Am as a kid in the 60's. I still have editions from 1981 dedicated to industrial processes like Forging, and I have the issue dedicated to the Mandelbrot Set. Maybe the magazine died along with Martin Gardner and the Amateur Scientist articles.

I suspect if there is life out there looking at us they will have concluded that there is no intelligent life on Earth.

Popular Science is another rag that went loony-left decades ago. I stopped my subscription back in the 1990's, even when they would send me offers that the rag was almost free. It was just garbage, like Scientific American and NAT GO.

Same thing happened to Smithsonian magazine

Same thing happened with "Nature" magazine.

I canceled my Scientific American and Nat Geo magazine subscriptions in the 1990s when they went anti-fact, anti-science. I'm sure the advert of the internet has accelerated their demise but I bet they would gain online subscriptions if they stopped their bias.

I also used to love Scientific America, they generally avoided the topic of climate change, but near the back pages they would cover articles from 50 and 100 years ago and often those articles were about extreme climate in the past, you just knew they were trying to get the word out without drawing attention to themselves. Then they changed the editor and the whole magazine was climate change, carbon trading, and then the next month was how climate change created the Syrian refugee problem. Can you even imagine that, it's criminal. I haven't purchased it since

I prefer the science of physics and chemistry which I took in college. Thermodynamics, entropy, the volume of gasses, Newton's laws, gravity, etc. Just fascinating stuff. Helped me appreciate the genre of science fiction even more. But when I studied psychology and sociology I could smell the dubious nature of those 'disciplines'. Climatology is a real science and as long as you stick to facts and experiments which can be duplicated it works. But NASA changes data and politicians promote lies not based on science at all. The science IS settled and it proves climate alarmists are nothing more than ignorant and/or greedy.

Good for you. If you can't derive the fundamental equations from first principles, you probably don't understand the subject at all.
