I lived in Leadville the 2 mile high city, back in 1986 and you would not ever known any fires burnt the forest anyplace like the 1898 fire. And by now, it must look like old growth forestry. AND on a side note, there is a lake there called Crystal lake at around 11 thousand feet. And around the lake grows mushrooms that get up to 3 feet tall !
