"Voting" is a way for the authoritarians to validate their being in power. If they were concerned about it being able to remove them from power, people wouldn't be allowed to do it. They control education, information, news, and directly manipulate current events & popular culture, and have for a very long time, therefore there IS no "democracy". It's possible there never really has been.
