Looking to implement a Business Continuity Plan, but not sure where to start? We at the Erwood Group outline the basics in this short, but fun video to help you get started and guide you in the right direction. Here are some tips to help you succeed. Conduct a discovery to see where your business is at. Do you have any planning in place at all? Next, perform a risk assessment (RA) and business impact analysis (BIA) of your critical business departments. Secure your critical business documents and keep them safe. If you can, make digital copies of them as well. Store copies off-site of your main business location. Next, form your Crisis Management Team. When possible add eternal resources to your team like vendors or outside consultants. Select recovery strategies that make sense for your team and business. You may want to consider strategies that are short-term, long-term, and even midterm in nature to cover all of your needs. Document and commit your plans to paper on how your business-critical processes and applications will be recovered. Be sure to include manual strategies for when technological applications remain unavailable. Next, evaluate your vendors to be certain they can meet your needs during and after major disruptions. Not just disruptions that occur to you, but to disruptions that impact them as well. Make sure you exercise and test your plans often. We work with our clients to empower them to do this monthly at the department level. Document and make changes to areas you find gaps and inefficiencies. Make sure you maintain your plan and keep it up to date. It's easier to make changes and updates as they happen, rather than trying to play catch-up all at once later in the year. For all-hazard business continuity planning focus on these five key areas: People Property Processes Applications Vendors Following these steps will help you Prepare Prevent Profit.
